I want Martha's cat.

The other night I was looking through my Martha Stewart magazine when I turned the page and saw this picture.

Something came over me and I started to stroke the glossy paper with two fingers as I whispered, “Kitty.” I wanted to reach my hands inside the page, grab the kitty underneath its soft and furry front legs, pull it close to me and cradle it my arms. I nearly cried.

Oh Laura. I wish I could share your feelings for cats. All I see is a bunch of hair and who-knows-what-nasties caught in its hair.

I do remember spending the night at your house once before our annual cabin cleaning and Scooter slept on my stomach all night. I didn't have the heart to move him. So despite my anti-cat exterior, I can still be quite nice.

Why don't you get a cat, anyway? Roommates or landlord object?

I can't believe you didn't move Scooter. I used to throw him off my bed all the time.

I wouldn't subject my roommates to a cat or any kind of pet right now for that matter. Although I love them, and they're pretty easy to house train, they leave hair everywhere. And I have a lot of friends who are allergic.

I feel this way when I see a dog on TV.

My dog died about a year ago and every time I see a dog on TV I go to one of the adoption websites and just look and think and hope.
